The Story Behind This Piece

One of my favorite musicians is an experimental artist named Atom Heart. One of the most prolific artists I know of, he releases a new CD just about every month, almost always using a different psuedonym: Senor Cococnut, Lassigue Bendthaus, Lisa Carbon, Eric Satin, lb, The Stereonerds, and many more.

As I member of the Atom Heart mailing list, I received this invitation from another member of the list:
___

i'm very happy to invite you to contribute to "MOTHER2 _ macos adios!" today.

i asked atom™, few months ago, to make one track exclusive for this compilation, which should be a pure sample track. this is because i wanted him to send me the complete source material that he used for his track, which i will now give to you.

using this material ONLY, create a new work no longer than 6 minutes in length. please don't use any other samples or sound material, but feel free to mutate, mangle, destroy, induce failure in, and generally further fuck up these samples to your hearts content.

At the end of August, 2003, I finished my first take on this project: Tone Garden. Above that mp3, I've posted only the samples that I used.

When I add/alter this piece, I'll post the new draft with any additional originally provided samples and my commentary on the changes. Please e-mail me with any comments and suggestions. Thank you.
